Dr. Lindsay Okonowsky
I’m a Licensed Psychologist in Texas and Arizona with over 10 years of experience in the mental health field, with particular emphasis in government service. After working for several years in correctional facilities, I reoriented my work toward serving first responders employed by a large fire department. Currently, I serve as a psychologist with Indian Health Service. Additionally, I provide services to individuals and couples in my private practice via telehealth. Serving a diverse client base, addressing barriers to help seeking, and reducing the stigma associated with participating in therapy are my priorities.
I have a relaxed, collaborative, and egalitarian approach to therapy. I view the therapeutic relationship and a client's presenting problems through a multicultural lens, with the goal of helping the client feel heard, understood, valued, and empowered. I primarily work with individuals experiencing issues related to substance use, relationships, career stress, depression, anxiety, trauma, major life transitions, poor adjustment, emotion regulation, and self-esteem. I tailor my approach to therapy according to my clients’ needs, but find myself most often using cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, multicultural, narrative, and psychodynamic approaches.
I take seriously the responsibilities and privilege associated with my role as a psychologist. I am eager to work with clients who have decided to take on the challenge of improving their internal relationships with themselves. Additionally, I enjoy working with couples wanting to initiate the tough work required to improve their senses of fulfillment, comfort, and peace in their relationships. I am confident in my ability to meet my clients where they're situated, within the unique contexts of their complex lives and histories (both personal and cultural), and strive to build trusting therapeutic relationships aimed at improving wellbeing in meaningful ways.
